Chairperson Update November 2021

Following the delay in opening our Groups during September 2021 due to Covid-19 infections increasing within the Harvington community amongst children and young people, the Project Steering Group are pleased to announce that the situation has improved sufficiently in order for us to re-open the face to face groups during this month of November 2021.

Ignite on Mondays at St James Church, Explore on Tuesdays at the Baptist Chapel and Adventurers on Thursdays at the Baptist Chapel will now begin a phased return and should all be running by the end of November.

The September update on the practical aspects of re-opening with care, published on our HYP Website will still remain in place in order that we can do as much as possible to contain the virus spreading as we re-open.

Hannah Owen will be leading on communicating to all children, young people and families in the above groups as to when each will re-open.

The Project Steering Group has also been meeting to plan for the future. At the end of the year Hannah will be stepping down from her role as the Youth Leader after 8 years of dedication to the Project. This is sad news but the Steering Group wants to reassure everyone that we shall be looking to recruit another special youth leader as soon as possible.

This will not be an easy task but we have made a start to find the right person. The process of recruitment will not be completed before Hannah leaves us just before Christmas and this means that a shared leadership team will be put in place to keep the groups running at the start of 2022 until we appoint a new person to take over.

When that leadership team has been agreed between the Steering Group and the volunteer staff, we will update you all on how it will work.

In the meantime, we hope you will all enjoy coming back together in your groups and doing everything we can to keep open and keep Harvington as virus free as we can.

Best wishes to all.

Peter Ashplant – Chairperson, on behalf of all members of the Harvington Youth Project Steering Group.
