I love writing and receiving letters, it’s something that I don’t do nearly enough. There is something so special about pen-to-paper; listening to the scratch of the pen, seeing the uniqueness in different people’s handwriting, the space and time to slow down your thinking so you can write what you really think and feel.
Today your challenge is to pick up a pen and some paper and write to someone; but not just write to someone… write to someone with words of encouragement. In the book of 1 Thessalonians in the Bible the writer calls us to “encourage each other and build each other up.”* I have a little box of cards and letters that people have sent to me over the years, these small gestures are full of words of encouragement… words encouraging my good qualities, words encouraging me to keep going when things are tough, words encouraging me to celebrate when things are going well.
Who was the first person that came to your mind when you found out we were writing to someone today? Now, how might you encourage that person today and what words could you use to build them up?
Let’s fill the world with encouragement!
